Rumors from the Ass Past Rumors (08/01/2000): well, today is the first day where free agents can sign. and what happens?? a block-buster deal is struck between the hornets and the heat. eddie jones, anthony mason, ricky davis and dale ellis are now on fire and jamal mashburn, pj brown and otis thorpe are now horny/hornets. charlotte also got 2 bench players. i think that the hornets did not become a better team by this deal (something that the heat did do), but they knew that eddie wasn't gonna sign with them, so they got something in return. now, for the free agent signings... ron merecer - chicago bulls (formerly of the magic). not sure what to think of this one. they've drafted three talented guards in the last two years (jamal crawford, ron artest and khalid el-amin) so who gets left out?? probably artest and el-amin with crawford playing the point and mercer the 2 spot. tariq abdul-wahad - resigned with the nuggets. sam 'big smooth' perkins - indiana pacers. the last time i checked, he was retiring. good thing he didn't. big smooth is the greatest 3-point shooting big man to ever touch a ball. also, he can do it all. a man with a plan. anthony carter - resigned with the heat. dammit. the raptors were in deep talks with the point guard, but i guess it wasn't meant to be. tim thomas - resigned with the bucks. kurt thomas - resigned with the knicks. doesn't mean much cuz brian grant's future is still up in the air. tony delk - signed with the suns (formerly of the kings). good choice. now they have a quality back-up to penny. the kings were busy resigning scott pollard and siging bobby jackson, who had been with the t-wolves. to me, pollard is a good choice. he's another quality back-up to wither webber or divac who can give the kings 6 fouls when they are playing shaq. jackson will be good signing if they can get a better starting 2guard (like derrick anderson). if not, i hate to say it, but it's money wasted. ed |
