Rumors from the Ass

Past Rumors (06/28/2000):

well boys, the first round is done, and the clippers won. that's right, the clippers won. man, no matter how many times i say that, it just feels wierd. they made two good picks in miles and richardson (although, fizer would've been a better pick) and they made one hell of a trade to get maggette, dooling and strong, as well as some coin for a future first rounder. all this to go with odom. hell, the clips could be nba champs in 20.....

here's the breakdown of the 2000 entry draft.

pat

1. Nets - Martin My Take - it was a slam dunk, so to speak. as long as his leg is good to go.

2. Griz - Swift

My Take - this made a good front line (if you exclude the centre position for a minute) outstading. swift will start as harrington wants out of canada. bye bye bye, othella.

3. Clips - Darius Miles

My Take - to tell you the truth, i was surprised to see him selected here. i was sure that he was going to da bulls. however, he will be an outstanding player in 4-6 years, but will he be a clipper by then??

4. Bulls - Fizer

My Take - what the hell were they thinking?? he plays PF as well as the 1999-2000 co-rookie of the year, elton brnad. the bulls believe that he'll be able to play small forward in the triangle offense. stupid. however, the rumour i'm hearing is that he'll be moving west to, wait for it, portland for jermaine o'neal. this just might happen b/c grant is a free agent and the blazers are unhappy with him.

5. Magic - Mike Miller, Florida

My Take - a good pick. good shooter, good ballhandler, and can play either the 2 or the 3. however, rumour has it that he might be packing his bags to clear room for, wait for it again, ghill, duncan AND tmac. yes, the magic might just have the $$ for ALL THREE. can somebody gimme a dynasty?? i don't think that'll happen, but 2 outta 3 ain't bad. (thanks, meatloaf)

6. Hawks - DerMarr Johnson, Cinci.

My Take - i picked alexander, they picked johnson. both the same, johnson is more immature mentally. only difference. great future.

7. Bulls - Chris Mihm (traded to the cavs for crawford)

My Take - they made a good pick, then they traded it away. they had their front line about as solid as one could have it, then they traded it away. in crawford, the get a guard who likes to shoot, and they do have 2 guys who like to hit the boards, maybe this'll work out. maybe..

8. Cavs - Jamal Crawford (traded to da bulls for mihm)

My Take - good move on the trade. they got a big man who can shoot. this'll allow kemp to play the perimiter more and allow him to drive the ball.

9. Rockets - Joel Pryzbilla

My Take - he'll be able to learn from one of the best centres ever to touch a ball, the dream. since the dream has only one (maybe 2) years left in the league, pryzbilla will be forced to start in a couple years. maybe this year.

10. Magic - Keyon Dooling (traded to the clippers)

My Take - damn, the clippers have a young line up now check it out:

Centre - michale olawokandi/odom
PF - maggette/odom
SF - odom/richardson
SG - miles/odom
PG - dooling/odom damn, yo.

11. Celtics - Jerome Moiso

My Take - taken strictly as a back up PF. however, he may be able to play centre in the league, but he's gotta get stronger. he's a shot blocker, but his novo thin.

12. Mavs - Etan Thomas

My Take - a decent selection by any team, a damn fine one by the mavs. he can play d while finley, nowitzki and nash (?) are scoring. set a school record for blocks in a year and in a career.

13. Magic - Courtney Alexander (rumour was he was gone to the mavs, haven't heard confirmation on it)

My Take - any team that gets him will be fortunate. he led all NCAA players in scoring with just about 25 a game. also, he's a senior so he's mature. the mavs have another weapon on offence. this could get interesting in cowboy country.

14. Pistons - Mateen Cleeves

My Take - no brainer. had either cleeves or mo pete not been picked with them both being available, there woulda been riots in the streets of the motor city.

15. Bucks - Jason Collier

My Take - they are beefing up their lineup. they now have 4 quality (the word is stretched when it come to ervin johnson) big men: collier, johnson, jason caffey and billy owens.

16. Kings - Hidayet Turkoglu

My Take - never heard of him, but it might be a while before he see him in the NBA as he might have 8 years left on his contract in turkey. that's the middle east for ya. however, the kings had to wait for stoijakovic and it paid off for them. turkoglu is a 6-9 SF who took his team to the euro. final four for the first time in the coutry's history. also, he's the first turkish player ever to be drafted.

17. Sonics - Desmond Mason

My Take - what can i say?? i called that one (if you're keeping score, i got 5 right in the first round, if you include mihm who i said the bulls would draft).

18. Clips - Quinten Richardson

My Take - solid. another guy to hit the boards. will play either the 2 or the 3, depending on odom's mood for the nite.

19. Hornets - Jamal Magloire

My Take - he's a hoser, eh?? take off! seriously, he's gonna be getting a lot of splinters. but, he can play two positions which might help him to see the court.

20. 76ers - Craig 'Speedy' Claxton

My Take - DAMMIT!! jeez hadt the raptor been able to trade up, they coulda had him. @ 6', he was the best PG in the draft. i don't care about dooling or cleeves, he was the man. averaged over 20 ppg and 6 apg in his senior season.

21. Raptors - Morris Peterson

My Take - a good pick, but not for the raptors. they have to be looking for a PG, and with barkley still available, they shoulda nabbed him. however, this selection pretty much closed the door on the raptors hope of signing mcgrady. he'll see that they have a replacement for him and he'll be out the door faster than schloss sighting a single honey in distress.

22. Knicks - Donnell Harvey

My Take - getting rave reviews. he was only a freshman, but the knicks can take theit sweet time with him with LJ and KT (kurt thomas) in front.

23. Jazz - DeShawn Stevenson

My Take - the other high schooler, and a bad pick. they need someone who'll be able to play NOW, not in 5 years.

24. Bulls - Dalibor Bagaric, C, Croatia

My Take - they might have to wait a while for this guy, too. might be this year, might be 3 years. who knows??

25. Suns - Iakovos Tsakalidis

My Take - good player, but no one wanted to risk the fact that he might not be able to get out of his contract, either. he'll be able to learn from the likes of luc longley (his forté: how to win championships riding other people's backs) and oliver miller (his offering: how to be a overweight, lazy asshole and still play in the NBA). god help us all

26. Jazz - Mamadou N'Diaye

My Take - played alright @ auburn. made it into the NBA solely on his name. anyone with a name like that will make it (see, mutombo, dikembe; bol, manute; and dare, yinka [who holds the record for the longest time to achieve his first assist: 3 YEARS. i shit you not])

27. Pacers - Primoz Berezec

My Take - never heard of him. NEXT!!

28. Blazers - Erick Barkley

My Take - how the hell did he end up down here?? he was touted as one of the first PG to be taken. anywho, the blazers stole him. he'll be a mighty fine back-up to mighty mouse and anthony.

29. Lakers - Mark Madson

My Take - love him. he's the most intense player in the draft. i got a picture of him dunking on odom somwhere when they made it to the final four a couple years ago. mad rebounder. knows where the ball is and where it'll go. similar to rodman.

and that, gentlemen, is the first round. schloss, i've done everything by myself. i've used www.nbadraft.net and bskball.com as references, but for the most part, it's come out of my brain.
